Thought I'd share with the forum:
My brother (ShagTheTruth on this forum) and I were talking a few days ago about my NES collection and I was lamenting that I hadn't tested a few recently acquired NES games. He said I should. I then started thinking... why not test all of them? Just to be sure they worked! I only have 111 games! Ironically, most of them are actually still excellent games.
I was joined last night by Shag as well as Nintendo Furniture and began from the beginning. 10 Yard Fight being the first game, we all found it... extremely barbaric and pathetic. It played so we moved on through the A's to... BATTLETOADS. We had some good chuckles at this Rare Ltd. game, but ultimately we fell privy to the extreme difficulty... of level 2.
We trudged through a few more B titles and then landed onto the Castlevania titles. We had already been playing/testing for about an hour. Running into these 3 amazing titles was a double edged sword. Of course we had to play them all, and Nintendo Furniture got into such a groove with the first that we watched him beat it through its entirety in under half an hour and with only 2 deaths. Way to go, brother! A new personal best!!!
We found Crystalis (by SNK) and Day Dreaming Davey (a terrible early HAL Ltd. game) in the pile. Then we found Demon Sword, by Taito. Quite literally, this is a "The Legend of Kage" doppelganger. The gameplay is entirely the same as TLoK, the only different is the chiptunes and the sprite design, though they are still strikingly similar.
We had been testing for about 3 and a half hours at this point and decided it was enough for one night. We barely even put a dent in my collection, and if this is any indication this is going to be a bi-weekly event until the end of the world in 2012. :3
Maybe next time I'll get two or three NES's going to speed things up!
