New host

A small change is going to happen to the site starting tomorrow. Ninfest.com has been hosted for 3 years by the same company but they no longer provide the service. So Ninfest will be hosted by a new company starting July 1st. This may cause some problems because it has been told to me that comments will no longer be accepted or attachments because of the software I use. This is going to get me moving more quickly to get the site rebuilt using new software. On the good side the new host boasts 99.9% uptime.

Forums will be unchanged for the time being but eventually the rebuild will integrate the forums and site much better. This is a good thing. I'll keep you guys in the loop as things develop.

Ok so the website is going to be down all of July 1st and probably most of July 2nd. Things are getting set up on the back end right now and will take about a day to be ready.

Site is back up. Nothing has changed except the sad omission of the ability to post comments to news stories. Not good at all so I am rebuilding it with new software and hopefully sooner than later the Ninfest rebirth will be complete. Not sure when but definitely before Wii U launches at the very latest.

Ok so I'm a bit frustrated. Not only are visitors to Ninfest.com not allowed to post comments, but it takes about 2 to 3 hours to update the site, even for the littlest things. Before I could just update the pages that were changed or added, but now I have to completely download the whole site to a folder on my laptop and then the entire site onto an FTP server. Long process. This is why there has been a lack of news lately but I will get back to posting and just deal with it.

Because of this I am now working feverishly to put together the new site, probably up a lot sooner than the holidays. I'm shooting for end of July/early August. As always I'll keep you guys in the loop.

We've talked about this before. Remember, I would need a computer up and running 24/7. I have an old pc that cannot handle it plus with the issue we're having right now with too many wireless devices on our network, sometimes something gets booted off. It's safer and more reliable to have it hosted by a company that specializes in hosting, has many servers should one go bad/infected and has the resources. All I would need is one virus to leak onto my one server and be done.

It's a huge security risk, cost just as much, and takes even longer to set up. It's a daunting and expensive task. Plus these upload speeds aren't the fastest so the site wouldn't load very quickly. Too many factors that would just not make it a smart choice.
