Ouya

Starting March 2013, there's gonna be a new console entering the console wars. Ouya. Only $100, running on Android, and completely hackable and open, this new console is aiming to truly become the money maker for indie developers that have struggled to get a fair shake on the 3 major consoles.

I'm pretty skeptical though. They don't have anything really working yet so I doubt they'll make it out by March 2013 and the idea of playing a bunch of phone games on a TV doesn't grab me. Plus any of those games that are built around the touch screen for control are going to feel awkward with a standard controller. Good luck to them but I see nothing but fail. Wii U will be fresh on the shelves and news of a new Sony and/or Microsoft console will be buzzing in March next year. Who's going to bother with this?

Is this what became of the Phantom?

I think the Phantom was its own failing beast. Of all the weird consoles to come around this one seems to have the possibility of having the most success. Maybe $15 million in its lifetime. Still far short of a real consoles expected sales.

I agree. Maybe it's cheap, and maybe it'll have some interesting games, but people can already get cheap and/or free games on their myriad other electronic devices. Yes, yes, it lets you play said games on your TV. I guess if that's your hangup, (indie games + TV,) then this "console" is for you.
