| Buying these back in the day was pretty expensive. I think the Wheel was $50 and the Pedals were $25. Made by Logitech and compatible with any racing game on the GameCube. I like the force feedback. You don't get that with the Wii Wheel but using it recently to play Mario Kart: Double Dash and F-Zero GX i enjoyed the wheel tugging in the opposite direction every time I was hit or hit the wall. Makes for a more realistic experience. The pedals, unlike earlier steering wheels, don't slip thanks to a gripped bottom so you can hit the gas and brakes without the whole unit tipping. My only problem was that it felt awkward holding it in your lap. There's a part that sticks out the bottom that you are to put between your legs and hold in place. Doesn't feel very comfortable and it can slide away from you at the most frantic points during gameplay. I thought it was funny that the Logitech logo shell in the middle was replaceable. It came with 3 colored logo shells- black, blue and orange. I use black since it matches the color of the rest of the wheel. Pretty good wheel and pedals overall but I've always found that using a wheel makes me play worse than with a controller. It's like giving myself a handicap when using it during multiplayer matches. Very rewarding when I was able to beat friends while using it, but didn't happen often. | |

| They are really more for non-gamers who have the mistaken impression that a steering wheel is better than an analog joystick for racing. (Untrue- some high-end cars actually have a joystick for steering.) Or they are for people who want an arcade feel, I guess, but not worth the effort IMO.
It reminds me of joysticks for the NES. Pointless. The whole idea of the crosspad was that it was superior in every way to the old pre-analog joysticks. (It gave you the same control with far less movement, making control much quicker and more precise.) Still, people, usually non-gamers, bought them, mainly because they were used to joysticks. (The NES Advantage is an exception because of its other features, but I still don't think the joystick was any sort of advantage.)
(When I say non-gamers here, I really mean people who don't game a lot.) | |

| Very true that pads are much more precise. I think the advantage of the steering wheel is that it gives you a more authentic or real experience. I also love pulling it out when going against casual gamers because I can still win with it, and coming in first using the wheel is a holy feeling. | |

| I agree with Streex. I don't think this was for casual players so much as for players looking for a thorough experience. This looks like a fine piece of accessory, Streex. | |

| It sure is nice! I forgot to mention that the part that goes between your legs can be taken off and if you have a table in front of you with a thin enough edge, you can clamp it to the table. The clamps are expandable. Never tried it this way as my coffee table is too thick but I bet it's more sturdy. | |

| Yep, Nintendo approved. Also I think not too many casual gamers would buy into these steering wheels because they cost too much. I can't see them pouring too much money into a device they don't use much. | |

| Driving games are actually among, if not the most popular genre among casual players. (It's something they all know how to do already.) That, and sports games. I've only seen casual players with steering wheels. (The Wii wheel doesn't count, and neither does Streex- he'll buy any peripheral.) Serious players know an analog joystick is far superior to a wheel. (Yes, yes, a wheel gives you a more "authentic" experience. So does 3D, but you folks are still turning off the 3D just to squeeze out some unnecessary extra FPS. Most serious gamers prefer superior control over realism.) | |

| I don't know if the sales records would support your claims, Antilles. I see more people casually playing Pac-Man than a kart racer or Midnight Club. I've never seen ANY casual players with a steering wheel, as Streex said the price is a bit steep for someone who doesn't collect or want that sense of realism. In fact- I've never seen a casual player play a racing game unless thats what people in the room were already doing. I suppose it all adds up to your own experiences. And as for turning off the 3d- in a fighter FPS is serious business. | |

| Ive played GT5 at my buddies house who is a huge Driving enthusiast. This guy has the $500 wheel and pedals with the $500 seat set up. It blew my fucking mind how awesome it was to play this way. But theres no way in hell Id drop $1000 on a setup to play it like that. | |

| Triz just opened up to the other type of gamer. The type that just care about one type of game. Like the gamer that will only play a driving game. Then there are the "gamers" that just play Madden every year. I can definitely see the driving game enthusiast shelling out that kind of money if that is all they play or what they most care about. Yeah, I have never seen a casual gamer with a steering wheel either. I've seen Balance Boards and Guitars, but that's because you need them to play their games. | |

| I was thinking about doing that, actually. But $1000 could get me an N64 DD and some games for it... | |

| They're not claims- just supposition. I've never seen many wheels, period. The only ones I've ever seen were with casual gamers. And I kind of see driving as a casual genre. What Triz said sort of supports my point. Casual gamers are willing to spend a lot of money on what they love, and tons of otherwise non-gamers love driving. (Not that I know that his buddy is a casual gamer, but I'd say in general anyone who plays mostly only driving games is a casual gamer in my book.) | |

| Nah my buddy is far from a casual gamer, hes pretty much in line with my tastes. Wii for Nintendo franchises and the other systems for everyting else. | |
