Will mobile phone gaming kill off systems like the 3DS?
I doubt it, there will always be dedicated portables.

2012 was a year of highs and lows. The highs being the Zelda Symphony and the launch of the Wii U. But let's take off our Mario hats for just a moment as we pay our respects to those we lost along the way. Videos below show all the game studios that were shut down this year and all the game characters, good and bad, that were brutally killed so that we might live to game another day. Let's also not forget the loss of Nintendo Power after 24 great years of Nintendo coverage, and the shutting down of G4 which will end the long run of X-Play and Attack of the Show. God bless us...every one.

It fell apart over the years, but I have some fond memories when I first started watching back in 2004. A lot of good gaming shows were on G4 and TechTV like Cinematech, Electric Playground, Pulse, Code Monkeys (arrived later), G4tv.com, and a few others. Slowly all the good shows were cancelled and before long it was just Attack of the Show and X-Play. X-Play started getting lame about 5 years ago when fun loving Morgan Webb and Adam Sessler started crapping on Nintendo, no matter what it was. I guess it was to try and appease the bro-core, but when Super Mario Galaxy got a 4/5 and Morgan Webb's reasoning was that it was "too cartoony", that was all the confirmation I needed that it was blatant hating with no real reasoning. I missed the good ol days when they would embrace GameCube games. I think the main reason they lost so many viewers was because they kept cutting all the gamer shows on a gamer network, but part of me believes the lack of unbiased journalism toward the end was the final dagger that lost what little viewership they had left.
