I'll be watching. Finally a little competition in the NEXT gen wars. Need to keep Nintendo on their toes. Nintendo does the best when their back is against the wall.

Sony likes Nintendo's formula with Nintendo Direct. They should just call this Sony Direct.
I'll be watching it here in the forums on the Wii U!

That controller looks of total buttfuckery, sorry.
Nice to see them get in on the social aspects of gaming, though the pricetag rumors... uncool.

That is where I hang my biggest question mark. What is the deal with the touchpad on the controller? Everyone get's so uppity about Nintendo not sharing everything. What is this?!?
The price rumors I'm hearing are maybe a SKU for $500 and another for $600. If you're pushing specs like that, don't expect to get it at a bargain. If those rumors are true, you better launch with 40 AAA titles to move units. But it won't. Instead it'll be a dry first two years as they try to convince devs to use the vita with PS4 for more than an exact copy of what is happening on the screen. It'll be interesting if they can get the near no latency the GamePad has with various phones and tablets.
The social stuff is cool, but past experience has taught me that I don't like posting stuff to facebook all the time. I'm comfortable posting stuff in Miiverse where only gamers will read it. Most of my family and friends on facebook could care less that I'm fighting a boss and I want them to watch it.
Well I hope they hurry up and launch it this holiday to start the next gen war. Let's see how much of a head start Wii U can get in sales before it arrives.
As far as the last gen war, I think it's safe to say Nintendo has won it, with a 25 million unit lead. Can Nintendo win back to back console races a second time?!? We'll have to wait and see.

Sony has AAA titles (that aren't for college dorms? News to me!)
Ok ok thats my last troll comment, swear! I doubt I will pick this up anytime soon. My PS3 just started getting used "a lot". By a lot I mean for the occasional game romp and Netflix, which as I've explained in other threads is due to the auto-episode feature ONLY PS3 has for some reason.
As for the FB posting... FB is for goons these days. And by goons I mean my parents. And by that I mean Facebook reeks of trendy ass.
My guess is most of the RAM PS4 will use are for the social features. GAF has been saying prolly 2/3 GB for actual gameplay, meaning scaled down ports for Wii U are entirely plausible.

Absolutely. Wii U will not have the same getting ports issue Wii had. Wii U will be much more aligned with the other consoles this generation.
In case you missed, go read the asshattery between Triz and myself in the chatbox. He was fanboying and I was hating during the Sony Direct.
Also if you missed the show, here it is:
And finally...I know the opinion of Kotaku isn't too fond around here, but they finally put in words what we all have been saying for years.

8gb of Gddr5, trust me any game that puts that to use will have trouble downporting to the next xbox or the wiiu. There isnt even a graphics card on the market now that has more than 6gb of it. That feature alone is going to make the PS4 a pricy item. Even if the os is taking 2gb of the ram its still a ridiculous number to have available for everything else.

Are we ignoring the intense use of ram by all the social features being used constantly? Highly doubtful that the rest of the ram will be for games only. Or are those features part of the OS?
I am no techy but from the posts I read it can go either way as we know little to nothing. Honestly it doesn't really matter since, as you have said before, we buy Nintendo for Nintendo games. Might make it tough for NextBox, tho...

Dedicating 2gb to os and system features would be more than enough to handle all they are saying it does. My concern with 8gb of gddr5 is the fact that its damn fast ram and pricey. I wouldn't be surprised if MS can launch their next console 100 dollars less cause of the cheaper ram in their machine. But I'm fearing the same problem with wiiu as the wii will arise games will be gimped by 3rd parties on the system cause it can't handle them. Ill say this ps4 future proofed itself with that ram, I see another long console cycle ahead.

Problem with future proofing like PS3 is that all that extra ram isn't getting used, and will not be tapped for quite awhile. Prepping for the future with PS3 didn't help them and ended up seeing the lowest numbers of the 3 consoles. We're just now seeing the best that PS3 games can be and now a new console is coming later this year.
Games like Watch Dogs will perform pretty closely on all consoles being that it's gonna be early PS4 stuff, and as we move into the future 2 and 3 years down the road, games on the PS4 will start to look better and better than Wii U games.
We haven't been given a price yet, but it looks expensive on paper. Which begs me to ask if Sony learned anything from last gen. I really didn't think they would launch an expensive system again.
