| I think in general peripherals fall in one of two categories: 1. Came with an awesome game that made it worth the extra cost, (or didn't cost anything extra,) and is cool even if you never have another game that uses it. (Example: Guitar for Guitar Hero- even if it did have tons of sequels.) 2. Failures. (Example: Power Glove.) | |

| I say all that because even ones that sound like a fun idea, like the GCN link cables and the Super Scope 6, they are destined not to get a lot of developer support, since not EVERYONE has them. It's easier money going after the full market, rather than the subset that didn't buy that peripheral. The Wii Remote, as good as it is, for example, would have been a failure if it weren't the default controller for Wii. I think the copycat stuff Microsoft and Sony are working on, (mind you, I don't fault them for trying- I knew they would,) are not going to be the amazing successes they seem to be anitcipating. (That's assuming they release them as peripherals for their existing consoles.) If they do a really good job, they'll have some success, but they won't be breaking any records. | |

| You forgot one category Professor Peripheral:
The peripherals, or attachments if you will, that are made for a game that everybody has, like Wii Sports. There are so many out there and not required to play the game.

I respectfully disagree, good sir. Those be accessories, which are never required. The highest quality examples of these would be the Wii Zapper and the Wii Wheel.

Yes, but you could also say that the Power Glove isn't required. Even the 2 games made for it are better played with a standard controller. Yes it's not an attachment, but not required for anything. - Triz wrote:

There is a growing number of games for it! Maybe they don't appeal to you but they are out there. Like Grand Slam Tennis, Hooked Again: Real Motion Fishing, Avatar, NHL 2K10 (WiiSpeak as well), Racket Sports (also camera support), Shaun White World Stage (also balance board), Spongebob truth or square, Rec Room Games, Tiger Woods, Virtua Tennis 09, and Wii Sports Resort. Games coming that we know will support it are Red Steel 2, Zelda Wii, and Span Smasher. Probably not The Grinder anymore if it goes top down like the other consoles. On WiiWare there's Shadowplay, GhostSlayer and Rage of the Gladiator. It's been out for less than a year, so as I look at this list I think it's coming along better than most peripherals from Nintendo.

I'd probably put it in category 1, actually. Wii Sports Resort is a good enough use for it even if nothing else does. Also, as Streex pointed out, Zelda and Red Steel 2 sound promising. Still, it's a little gray. Almost category 2, since I'm not overly impressed by Wii Sports Resort. The other support for it, though, is decent but not great. It's actually doing better than I anticipated. I fully expected category 2.

| Down the line Wii MotionPlus might become a built in standard in the Wiimotes removing it from the peripheral category. Which means eventually you'll have all the support you can handle. | |

| That was exactly where I see it going. That's why I don't see the PS3 and XBox 360 efforts doing all that great. If they came standard with their next gen consoles, it would be another story. Traditionally, Nintendo's competitors have always been one generation behind them on innovation. I'm a little worried now, though, as I don't see where they can go with the next generation to stay another step ahead. I only see refining the current ideas, which is why, I suppose, I don't work for Nintendo. Hopefully they have something up their sleeves that's a little more creative than the recent iterations of the DS. | |

| I wouldn't go that far. It's just more of an incremental improvement and not a big leap. Then again, I really wouldn't need a big leap- the DS is already great. I just wanted beefed up graphics and maybe tilt sensitivity in the next iteration. | |

There is some tilt sensing already but it's in the software. There's one DSiWare game that uses the camera to create tilt control.
