| Nintendo is moving quickly now with the upgrades. The DSi XL is coming early next year. Bigger screens yet again and bigger stylus. No price yet. DSi owners, are you upset? Are you going to make the upgrade again after owning the DSi for just a year? | |

| As the resident Nintendo nerd, I figured youd be familiar with teh larger screen systems they put out in Jaoan for the senior crowd. I think the media is running with this in the wrong direction as Im sure its catered to the same audience. | |

| The initial media I ran across was labeling it for seniors. Later Iwata comes out and says...
When we compare the LCD screen size, Nintendo DSi LL has a screen 93% larger than that of Nintendo DS Lite and 67% larger than that of Nintendo DSi. When you only hear about this feature, you may wonder if the bigger screens are the only difference or whether Nintendo is launching a Nintendo DS for seniors only. Nintendo does not offer new product for such limited purposes only. Nintendo DSi LL features not only bigger monitor screens, but an improved view angle on the screens to make it the first portable system that can be enjoyed with people surrounding the gamer. Many people see portable video game device as the device that can be played by yourself wherever you are. In fact, portable video game systems so far have been developed by prioritizing the portable nature and single-player modes. Due to cost restraints, monitor screens had to be small, and LCD could not provide a beautiful view from an angle, so portable video game machines were structurally confined to game plays by a single player. So far, when people play with portable video games with their friends, they generally need to have a corresponding number of portable game systems and connect them wirelessly. Of course, we will further promote such a play style that has been widely spread by Nintendo DS, but Nintendo DSi LL is going to offer a new play style where those who are surrounding the game player can also join in one way or the other to the game play. - Satoru Iwata
If we are to believe what he is saying here it isn't for the senior crowd. Doesn't make sense to release a new handheld just for seniors in the first place but why so soon? Personally I'd love to go with bigger screens which is why I'm considering the purchase. Probably not at launch though.

| On the one had, there's the part where you get to enjoy it for a year before those who wait for something better, but I usually reserve that argument for those who wait for price drops, for which the argument makes more sense. (Nintendo's prices generally take quite awhile to drop, if they ever do.) On the other hand, I didn't see the DSi as enough of an improvement to go out and grab one. (I'm still using the original DS, so I was tempted, since it's still a significant improvement over that... but also a fair amount more expensive.) I sensed more improvements were in the works, though, so I decided to wait. Those big screens sure are tempting... | |

| I probably won't get this at launch. I didn't get the DSLite until a year after launch since it only improved cosmetically over the DS Phat. The DSi however I got at launch since it allowed you to do things the others couldn't like photos, mp3, downloadable content and games. The DSi XL showing us only a screen upgrade and bigger stylus means I'll wait. I'm sure if I wait long enough the 3G connected DSi will be announced and I'll just go with that. | |

| This is so stupid. Why do they keep releasing the DS? I still have the original DS, and am never "upgrading", if that's what you wanna call it. The original DS was just fine, they don't need to waste people's money. | |

| I bought my daughter a DS at Christmas and it suits her she loves it so I deffinetly would not be upgrading, I know my brother did last year he had a DS and got the DSi but I understand why as there was new added features on the DSi. Is there really much of a change compared to the DS and DSi with the DSi XL or is it just a bigger screen? | |

Pretty much just a larger screen. Or as I like to call it, Nintendo raping your wallet.

Also a bigger stylus. You get the smaller one too. The bigger stylus is nice but no storage on the unit for it. The screens are also supposed to make it easier for others around you to see. I hear that the images get a little pixelated getting blown up to fit the bigger screens. I haven't seen it yet so I'm not sure how bad a problem this is.

Haha yeah now I have to agree with that one It is a bit much just for a bigger screen and a bigger style, IMO the DS screens now are big enough and if you want a bigger stylus you can buy accessory packs with a pen like thing that you have a stylus in which makes it bigger and easier to handle, that was what I got my daughter for christmas with her DS with her having little hands and she loves it.

| I have purchased every Nintendo console since the 64 on launch day, and this may be the first exception. I am a collector, so there is no doubt I will own a DSi XL. BUT... 30 extra dollars, no real improvements... makes me wonder WHY they did this. Just seems... useless. I mean, it is going to compete with sales of the regular DSi. Does the DSi even sell better than the DS Lite??
As for thoughts on the DSi, one comes to mind: SUCK. I'm not a handheld fan really, but it just seems like nothing is gonna beat my GBA.

| No no no! It would not cost $200.00 just for DSi XL itself. And good thing that it will release in the U.S. on March 28th. That's what I am trying to save up my money for. | |

I think maybe he's referring to the inclusion of extra software and stuff? At any rate, I am on the fence about it. On the one hand, it's a significant improvement over my DS Phat. Still, I was hoping they would perhaps beef up the processors a bit and/or add in rumble or even some sort of motion sensitivity (think Kirby Tilt & Tumble or Wario Ware Smooth Moves.) That way we could have a new generation of more advanced DS games while retaining the DS library. Also, I'm still miffed about the loss of the GBA slot. If they had used this thing's extra size to put it back in, that would have tilted the balance far enough to sell me on it.

| Ha. It's only rape for those crazy collectors who buy each new iteration. What Nintendo is doing is smart. They keep it fresh for those who may not be into DS yet, or, like me, have the oldest model, and they make some extra bucks off of the aforementioned crazies. (I mean "crazy" in the nicest way- no offense, guys!) | |

| Im still bitter that Nintendo points cant be used between the DSi and Wii. Id probably own alot more DSi stuff if the 4000 points on my Wii could be shared with the DSi. I do love the pinball game on the DSi, I play it on the toilet all the time. | |
