| Here's a re-post of my reply in Sunsoft. ZeldAnTales thought we should have a Sunsoft thread. It's a shame we don't have a forum that deals with developers and publishers. - Quote :
- Now you've got me thinking about Sunsoft. The only Sunsoft game I actually finished was Gremlins 2, (a lot of fun for a licensed game, and very hard, as one expects from Sunsift.) Fester's Quest and Blaster Master were too hard, though I'm really excited about the new WiiWare Blaster Master. Sunsoft still exists?!!?

| ZeldAnTales thought Fester's Quest sucked. It was a great game, actually, but the biggest problem was that Sunsoft's method of making it "One Tough Video Game," was kind of cheap. All they did was make it so that if you died, (very easy to do,) you restarted from the beginning with almost nothing. No saving your progress, nothing. Also, getting strong enough to have any hope of surviving long was an extremely long grind. Enemies were very stingy with drops. | |

| I dunno, truly great games made more use of the technology and better, MUCH better, puzzles and fighting. Zelda, Mario, Crystalis, Final Fantasy, Recca (Fami only), Dragon Warrior. These are GREAT games. I understand you loved it when you were younger, and your ties to it are unbreakable. Just like me and my love for Skitchin', which is most definitely an awful game.
I will admit to this being average/slightly better than average, but certainly not great.
All that aside, Sunsoft was a great company who made some great games and ported Fantasy Zone to the NES which I will forever be grateful for. See what I did there?

| A forum devoted to developers and publishers? Never thought of that. What do you guys think? Yay or Nay. When you talked about Gremlins 2 I laughed. I think I beat that game at your house years ago Antilles. Fester's Quest was a fail. It was difficult but I managed to beat it by finding safe spots to stand when battling bosses. Especially the last boss. If I didn't find a spot that seemed to go unnoticed, I don't see how he could be beaten. Didn't care for the game much but I did like the music. I still hum the overworld theme from time to time. Blaster Master was a hard game as well, especially because it was sooo long and a game over would mean starting back at the beginning. Yes, even after pouring 5 hours into it. But that is why I like Sunsoft. I like my games difficult. Blaster Master was a true blast to play. Sorry for the pun. And yes Sunsoft exists!!! They came back! Their first game since returning is Blaster Master Overdrive which I have to give my highest rating for. You must check it out. | |

| You list games that made better uswe of the technology, ZeldAnTales, and though I can't speak to the one I never heard of, you're right about all the rest except Final Fantasy. I know, right? How can I talk bad about the game that launched one of the most beloved franchises in history? Well, as Nintendo Power put it, recently, and I agree, it really wasn't that great, and it certainly doesn't hold up today. Mind you, I still loved it, but I'd never play it again. There's a chance I'd play Fester's Quest. It wasn't Sunsoft's best game, but it did have better graphics than any of those games you mentioned. Blaster Master, though, that game had the graphics Sunsoft was known for, plus it was somewhat unique and very well designed. | |

| Though it is a matter of opinion, I will say this: If FF wasn't that great back in the day... why do we still have it around? To be perfectly honest I'd rather play 1-3 than 7. 4 & 6 are still the pinnacle, but I enjoyed the first one immensely.
Oh, and Fester's Quest looked better than Zelda? I highly disagree, the colors and designs of Zelda so dwarf Fester's that there really is no debate.

| When sunsoft released FF, wasn't it only for gameboy and still property of square? or am i mistaken? I remember having FF1 for gameboy, but not finishing it ever (thought it was boring). I completely wrote off final fantasy until I played 7 for playstation and fell in love with that game. I never played any of the earlier ones... maybe I should get on that. | |

| No, you are correct. Still Square's property. Called Final Fantasy Adventure. And it was boring. LOL
I kinda despise 7, but let me recommend 4 & 6 for either the SNES or the GBA, whichever is easier for you to snag a copy of. 4 & 6 were 2 & 3 in US, on the SNES only btw.
Once they all came to the GBA they were numbered correctly. Damn japs...

| Wow, I didn't know that until now (Sunsoft publishing FF on GameBoy). I tried Final Fantasy Legend 2 on GameBoy, which was also published by Sunsoft, and that was lame too. | |

| Why do you despise 7 zeldantales? I thought it was great. The materia system was cool, the graphics were good (for the time), and I also liked the story. | |

| Hated the story, hated materia, very long for no good reason. I was VERY big into 6 so 7 disappointed immensely.
I understand its value as a milestone, though. Very deep. Maybe too deep for me, I dunno. Just didn't like the battling and magic. Soooooo many random encounters, with the typical FF relentlessness.

| I actually only beat FF7 recently. I enjoyed the story. The graphics do not hold up well at all, though. Square's idea to use polygons then was a mistake. FF4 and 6 were indeed better. | |

| Yeah, the graphics look like crap now (except for the cutscenes, but cutscenes aren't real gameplay) ... but for the time they were cool. Just bought a copy of 6 used. Hopefully I can find my snes now... if not i'll just download the rom | |

| For some reason none have beaten the characters and story of FF4 for me. Maybe that's why they finally made sequels for it... (I actually used to dream of sequels for that game!) | |

| Have you played the sequels? They are a tad on the easy side (seeing as they were cell phone games in Japan), but getting to watch some of the old characters return is the bomb. | |

| Strangely, I haven't played them, yet. I can only buy games so often and I was already working through the Strong Bad games when it came out. Aren't they like $10 apiece? Are they worth it? | |

| No, they are about 300 apiece, some are more. But of course you gotta buy 1000 pts at a time so... | |

300 points? Are we talking VC here? I thought the cheapest games were 500 points.

| Actually, I think they're 800. DLC is for exisitng games. There is no FFIV on Wii. They're WiiWare. | |

| Um, no. I bought them all I would know. Most chapters are 300 points, the initial purchase of FF4: The After Years is 800 points. And yes, it is a WiiWare title, dunno if I said anything to the contrary though. | |

| I was telling Streex they're Wiiware. You had me under the impression that they were all separate. Strong Bad and Tales of Money Island are episodes, (but they are not, and do not have, DLC,) which is how FF4 sounded based on the conversation. Some Wiiware does have DLC, but saying "they are DLC," didn't make much sense without mention of purchase of the core game, so when you mentioned episodes, I was thinking more along the lines of Strong Bad and Monkey Island. | |

| You guys are confusing me. This is how I understand it. StrongBad and Monkey Island is episodic content, FFIV: The After Years has DLC, like Mega Man 9 and 10. The question I have is, is FFIV: The After Years the same as FFIV on DS and GBA? I have it on those 2 platforms and is the DLC worth getting it a 3rd time? | |

| No it is not the same game as 4 on the DS/GBA. Those games are both FF4. This is FF4-2, akin to X-2. Totally new stories. | |
