Will mobile phone gaming kill off systems like the 3DS?
I doubt it, there will always be dedicated portables.

Yes, the 3DS will be the last portable system from Nintendo.

Probably, unless Nintendo drops their prices.

The original power pad that started it all had good intentions but mostly fell short. We only got 6 games that used it. Most of the games people would use their hands and heels to produce rediculously high scores and fast times. Probably because the games that used the Power Pad required a lot of running and I personally found myself after a few rounds wiping sweat off it. The Balance Board has yet done this to me. The 6 games released for it were Athletic World, World Class Track Meet, Dance Aerobics, Street Cop, Super Team Games, and Short Order/Eggsplode. The games missing from my collection are World Class Track Meet and Street Cop. My favorite game would have to be Super Team Games. Also World Class Track Meet cherry . I played that at a friends house and it's a lot of fun as well. Aside from Athletic World, all the games were pretty good. I guess people weren't ready to get off the couch yet. Dance Aerobics is basically the big sister of Wii Fit, but Wii Fit is a money maker. So it started well but like we've seen a number of times, Nintendo stopped supporting it and a promising peripheral turned into a doormat (that would be cool though if I ever saw someone actually using the power pad as a doormat).

At least with the balance board, there's never really been the expectation that it's for anything other than Wii Fit. Yeah, some other companies have tinkered with it, due to its relatively enormous popularity for such an expensive peripheral, but it's fine for doing exactly what it was made for. It's still cheaper than gym equipment.

(I have trouble doing push-ups on it, because when my hands get sweaty, they start to slip.)

That's funny. My hands slip too. I try to hang my palms over the edge for better grip but it hurts more. geek

I remember this accessory. My grandma actually still has one with her NES. (she kept it for the grandchildren, like me Power Pad Icon_biggrin ) Anyways, all we had that supported it was World Class Track Meet. Like Streex says above, my cousins and I would cheat by barely raising our feet off the pad and we would be able to get extremely fast times. That cheat pretty much ruined the game. I mean when you can win against the fastest competitor in hurdles without actually jumping over any of the hurdles, there is something wrong. (our strategy was to just go really fast and barrel through all of them) Great memories with this little device.

Oh no! That! Power Pad Icon_eek This would kill me if I do that hopping crap every time the run mode is on. But it's also good for my legs to get exercise. Still just tap it with your hands when you are about to lose to your opponent.
