Advance Wars

I've been exuding too much fanboy lately, I had to take this opportunity to slam a Nintendo game. Advance Wars. Awful. See DS review. Pretty much my feelings for this game. Still I would like to see what the series would look and play like on the Wii, but it seems Batallion Wars is how Nintendo will portray war on the console.

Not good to me. Lots of people like it so don't take my word for it. When it comes to stategy rpg's from Nintendo I stick with Fire Emblem.

To put it quite simply, it's boring. After a while you start to hate seeing the same battle sequence over and over. Thankfully you can turn them off and just see the results. To say something positive, it is a pretty deep strategy game underneath it's cartoonish graphics. Music sucks but graphics are good.

The gameplay didn't seem like it varied enough from level to level. You did get new vehicles as you progressed but my strategy didn't have to change much.

I just didn't have fun with it. I like the story in RPG's to pull me in to go along with intuitive gameplay. I need that if I'm going to spend countless hours with it. Without it I get bored fast and it's a struggle to finish. I didn't look forward to playing this game every night. It felt more like a chore.

As a glutton for punishment I tried Black Hole Rising and Dual Strike and the level of difficulty went way down on Black Hole Rising and then way too difficult on Dual Strike. On DS, I was literally stuck on that game for 9 months. Lier X Agerate recommended that I try the latest entry on the DS since it lost its younger look for a more mature theme but haven't yet tried it.

If you have a hard time getting into Fire Emblem (which is my stragegy RPG of choice), then maybe this will be more to your liking. Your arsenal is expendable here.

Couldn't get enough. Started on Advance Wars 2, so can't talk about the original, but all games from 2 on rocked. Even the somewhat maligned last one. I liked that the best, actually, because it was darker and the strategy was actually deeper. The CO powers were turned down several notches so that they couldn't just dominate. I can PWN any of you at any Advance Wars game. BRING IT. I played these to DEATH.

I think I may end up giving this a try.

Hopefully the first titles for GBA are easy to find...
