| This is more for streex than anyone else, but we had a long drunken debate over this and I wanted him to see it - Quote :
- Nintendo fans have no doubt been excited about Activision’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II making its way onto the Nintendo Wii U next month (Nov. 18 to be exact).
However, after the publisher had previously stated that the game could run at 60fps and at 1080p, gamers have been asking the question as to whether or not that 1080p is native or if the console will upconvert it.
Today, Activision confirmed to us via email that “The game is not natively 1080p”, which of course means that it’s the Wii U that will be able to upconvert it, since the system supports the format.
In addition, the publisher also confirmed that the Wii U version of the game will also feature the re-imagined Nuketown map, for those who pre-order the game.

| Correct me if I'm wrong but... the human eye cannot tell the difference between 720p and 1080p, right? Or is that the fps issue? No, I def. notice 30 fps vs. 60, so... I'm thinking its the resolution...
Or is this a myth?
Also lol figures Triz would post a Ninty headline that is inferred to be negative lol.

| No there is quite a bit of difference between 720p and 1080p almost twice the resolution actually. And this isnt negative Ninty news. As I stated this was more for Streex than anyone.
COD hasnt been in HD yet on ps3 or 360. Each game is actually 640p upscaled to a 720p resolution. Streex was touting the 1080p due to the increased horsepower of the wiiu. I called bullcrap cause it was a port.

| Like I care I just thought it was ironic. That is odd how it has yet to be in HD, never knew that. Seems like that would have been one of the first to actually do that, lol. I have my 32 Gig Wii U all paid off as well as NSMBU and a pro controller. Nov 18th cant come soon enough. | |

| Actually, I saw an article talking about how NSMBU is only 720, and that only a few games, like COD2, were 1080, but maybe they weren't talking about native resolution.
For the record, 720 is HD by definition. There is more than one HD resolution. HD has to be at least 720 and have the 16:9 aspect ratio.
As for the visible difference the answer is that it depends. A lot of people, when asked that question, like to say, "oh yeah, totally," and then talk numbers. "It's like, totally 360 more than 720, dude!" they say, as if that means anything. Why not 4320P, then? That would be a picture 4 times as good! Well technically, yes, that's true, but only a machine would notice.
The question of whether or not you can see the difference lies mainly in how big your screen is and the distance from which you are viewing it. On a 32 inch screen from average viewing distance, there is very little chance you will be able to tell the difference. On a 42 inch screen you might, and on a 60 inch screen, you almost certainly would, though even there I think the change is not as drastic as you might expect.
I'm happy they've gone to 1080P, though, and look forward to seeing some native 1080P games in the future on my 47 inch screen.

| To take it back to the original post, I don't think it was a debate as much as it was a comment I had read. Comments from the industry get posted then changed, all the time it seems as we lead up to launch. It really doesn't matter to me, as long as it's in HD on an HD console. Even if the graphics are the best on Wii U compared to the others, it really doesn't matter to me personally. I'll bring it up as announcements come because it has been the crutch naysayers have leaned upon for most of the Wii generation. If graphics matter so much to them then maybe knowing it will look better on Wii U will either get them to buy one, or force them to find another excuse why they think Nintendo sucks. | |
