| also eeeek at this review of the launch games: http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2011/01/nintendo-3ds-hands-on-2/#more-32009 - Quote :
- Kid Icarus: Uprising
Anyone who played the original 8-bit Kid Icarus might remember it as a solid, challenging action-adventure. Kid Icarus: Uprising, on the other hand, is an on-rails shooter with awful controls. You have to use the touch screen to aim at targets while simultaneously shooting with the left shoulder button and rotating your camera with the analog stick. It’s seriously cramp-inducing for a fast-paced shooter. And shooting is pretty much all you’ll do, as the bulk of the demo involves shooting down monsters along a single scripted path. The six-minute demo was all flash and no substance, leaving my mind bored and my hands uncomfortable.

- Madden NFL Football
As an unapologetic New York Jets fan, I was appalled to be stuck playing as the New England Patriots in the Madden NFL Football demo. A few of the game’s mechanics baffled me, like a cinematic camera that will suddenly and jarringly pause the action in the midst of a big play. But the game looks and plays quite smoothly, perhaps more so than any other portable Madden.
Here’s the missed field goal: The game has no multiplayer mode, according to an EA Sports rep at the event. Considering how much Nintendo is touting the social capabilities of the 3DS, this is a real disappointment, especially for one of the most social game series of all time.

- Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D
Mercenaries isn’t just a port — it’s a port of a minigame. Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5 both featured this free-for-all zombie survival mode, which Capcom is now selling by itself for 3DS.
Yes, the zombie-shooting action is adrenaline-packed. Yes, the 3-D helps amplify the game’s horror-tinged setting. But I can’t help but wish The Mercenaries was more of a game. There’s no story and no campaign, just an endless stream of zombies to slaughter.

- Looking at the whole lineup of software, it gives the impression that Nintendo is releasing the 3DS prematurely. Most of the system’s strongest upcoming games, like Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracle, Paper Mario and Kingdom Hearts 3D were totally absent from the conference (and are probably a long time coming). Key features like the 3DS eShop might not be available for months. The launch lineup features lots of big name franchises, but the games are mostly ports and quickie shovelware.

- A second issue facing Nintendo is the fact that the 3DS introduces 'region lock', preventing users from being able to import titles and play them on their existing hardware. This is a shift from the essentially region-free DS, but it is something that nearly all disc-based consoles have had - so HULIQ News has a hard time seeing this be a big controversy for the general consumer market. The percent of 3DS buyers potentially interested in importing a title is likely a very small number. Critics would respond that mod chips and other circumvention technology will surely be developed to strip region codes, making this a futile effort on Nintendo's point, but it is unlikely this issue will have an impact on sales of the device.
http://www.huliq.com/10177/nintendo-sees-no-controversy-3ds-price-region-lockAlso even if those are demo reviews do you think titles due in a couple months will drastically change? The only one far off is Kid Icarus.

| Sorry man but there is no way you can make a good judgement from a 6 minute demo. Though the Kid Icarus controls sound cumbersome... which is weird considering this is THE launch title... But how much camera rotating could there be if its an on-rails shooter?

| I thought the shooter portions of Kid Icarus are only a part of the game. (The limited flying sections.) Is the whole game on rails?
(Mind you, I have no problem with on-rails if a game is fun. I did enjoy Umbrella Chronicles, though certainly not as a full-priced game.)

| I agree that those reviews are for a 6 minute jog. Regardless of how complete the game is. If you read a review for a game and at the end they told you they played a maximum of 6 minutes, would you consider that a wrap? People were pretty hard on some of the reviews for Metroid: Other M because they were posted after only a couple hours of gameplay, let alone 6 minutes. That's just not enough time to allow the game to pull you in. Like at the mall when they hand out meat samples on toothpicks to draw you in for the full portion. It's just a taste, nothing more. | |

| Well in Metroids case a few hours is all it should take for a good game to snag you. I think that particular game's problem was that people had preconceived notions of what it was going to play like. I still can't say the first person segments were too awesome, movement would have been appreciated.
But yeah, I'm sure these are the same assholes who shit on the Wii when it was coming out.
