3DS. What are your opinions over it?

Hey, when is the 3DS giveaway contest?

Wow you guys missed out on all the hype from the event. It's all over now, just people playing demos. No live video feed so it was just comments informing us. Hopefully the videos will be up on the web soon. Lots of details announced!! Here are some of the main ones:

• 3DS Japanese release date is Feb 26th for 25,000 Yen

• NA/Europe release in March. Info to follow from respective Nintendo branches.

• Virtual Console 3DS confirmed!! GB and GBA games to be put up on there in 3D!

• Zelda: Link's Awakening DX and Super Mario Land are the first games to be released in 3D.

• Mii's confirmed for 3DS! Take a picture of someone and you can get an auto-created Mii to be edited the way you want it.

• 2GB SD bundled with the system.

• Launch colours are Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black.

• Tag mode feature to connect with other 3DS users even while in sleep mode or if the game isn't in the 3DS.

• The final design isn't much different from the e3 showing. Just a different coloured slide pad than the main console and a metallic stylus.

Those are just some of the 3DS features! It wasn't all about the 3DS though. The Wii Remote Plus was confirmed to be true. It is a Wii remote with motion plus built in. It looks no different than a Wii remote actually other than a curve underneath the 4 LED lights at the bottom. Perhaps it's a bit longer than a regular Wii Remote. Thanks for that extensive report Matthew999! So March it is for us. I guess it's best this way...being that it's going to be $300! Most expensive hardware outing for Ninty yet. It's also going to come with a charging cradle. I'm thinking it could have been cheaper if they left out the SD card and charging cradle, but that would probably only drop it to $280.

300 is price in Japan...they always launch cheaper here. Id put my money on 229-250

I agree Triz. WildCard also brought this to my attention that Nintendo tends to release hardware cheaper in the states. I'll still hold onto my $250 prediction.

Thanks, Triz. That's what I really wanted to know- if the $300 was a money conversion or the actual announced US price. Yes, stuff is always cheaper here than the Yen price would indicate.

Another reason we can't go by direct conversion is that if we already were, we'd be paying $60 for DS games right now.

I'm wondering what 3D movies are going to cost...probably won't get more than 2 or 3 since it's the games I'm more concerned about.

It's official. We will be in New York for the launch of the 3DS. Anyone else?

Probably not now. :\ Saving up money to go on tour this summer.

It seems I am total dead a** bas*ard of getting this on my own. But if I were earning some jobs from my family, I'd say it takes probably 3 months to get alot of money to buy a 3DS.

I'd really love to make it out to the Nintendo World Store. I was ready to do it and then Triz scared me with his comments about waiting in line for several days to be at THE event. Now with a crammed tight schedule I'm probably going to have just enough time to brave an all day line in town.

I read an interesting post on another forum: basically saying the 3ds is moving away from the one thing the ds has going for it, the touch interaction. You will be focusing on the 3d not the touch screen. Nintendogs where you pet your dog with a cursed just doesn't sound appealing. I'm still interested and I never liked those games to begin with, but it's a point I hadn't considered. Any of you guys check out the psp2 specs? With the Oled touch screen it may have a major advantage over the 3ds. Just something to consider.

I suppose we won't know for sure what Nintendo has planned for the touch screen usage until the years play out. Even if what the fortune teller said is true, there are so many companies making games for the 3DS. I'm sure touch screen functionality will still be prevalent.

Taking another look over the PSP2 specs it does seem to be the most powerful handheld yet. Let's see if they can get the software to utilize so it doesn't become another PS3. Being that they like to release hardware at extremely high prices, I'd say when this eventually comes out next year you'll be dumping $350 over it. It does make me chuckle listing Sixaxis tech. Suxassis.

So the battle is coming down to this. Better touch screen or portable 3D? Touch screens on portables is just not as fresh as holding 3D in your hand. But Nintendo is going to have their hands full with all these smart phones apparently coming out this year with 3D also.

Sony is once again not innovating. They are cramming a bunch of power under the hood and trying to perfect others ideas (i.e. Move). When Nintendo is moving past 3D with another innovation to portable gaming, Sony will be releasing a new handheld with better 3D.
