As far as I know, (and if I'm wrong, I'm sure you'll let me know, along with some sources to educate me,) there's no noticeable advantage via optical or HDMI over standard RCA-type cables for sound. Say what you will about graphics, but the sound on Wii and GCN is as good as the sound I get from my DVD player through either optical or HDMI.

After purchasing at least one game every month, I have now gone the span of a month without making a game purchase. I guess this is for the best. With an onslaught of games coming, starting with Metroid: Other M, it's going to take a monumental amount of cash to collect them all.

For the rest of the year, what games are on your must buy list and what games are on your will buy if I have the money list?

metroid other M is the only wii game im getting this holiday I think. Unless I get a present from Streex in the mail. Honestly I feel guilty about getting Metroid when I missed Mario Galaxy 2.

Not pumped for DK Returns or Goldeneye?

Interested in DK returns, sure. But its not one of my must have games ZanT. Metroid Zelda and Mario is the holy trinity. The other games just hold those three up higher. Actually Im a little worried about Other M and its quality, I love team Ninja, and Im sure Nintendo wouldnt let them fuck it up, but Im just not 100% sold its gonna turn out ok. The trailers Ive seen sure look pretty though.

That's a big "no" on DK. I'm sure it would make my top 20 list, but as I have trouble just getting my top 1, I'll have to pass. I'm hoping Goldeneye will be good, but I'm not very optimistic given numerous failed attempts in the past at recapturing its popularity. I think Goldeneye's reputation is actually about 10 times as good as the actual game was. Mind you, I loved it, but it wasn't THAT good. I really thought Perfect Dark was better in every way possible. It had EVERYTHING Goldeneye had, (except Bond,) plus tons of modes and bots, but was never as popular. Shame.

@Antilles: A "big" no? Why the "animosity"? Seems odd you'd be more psyched for 007 (made by Activision who lets me down pretty much constantly) than a Retro-made DK Country. To each their own.

Also I personally thought 007 and Perfect Dark both sucked, but had fun with multiplayer.

On my must purchase list is EA Slapshot (for the hockey stick), GoldenEye 007 (for the gold Classic Controller Pro), Metroid: Other M, Super Scribblenauts, Sonic Colors, and Skyward Sword. DK is on my get if money allows list.

I didn't like the original GoldenEye too much either, but really ran the multiplayer to the ground. Donkey Kong deserves more love guys! Retro is the new Rare!

It's not animosity. DKC was fun. DKC 2 was fun, if more of the same. DKC 3 through 50... more, more, and more of the same. It's no Mario Galaxy, and I haven't even gotten the sequel to that, yet. Platformers are a dime a dozen and I never even got around to playing through the original DKC series, so a new one doesn't really rank highly on my list. It already wasn't in much demand for me.

As for 007, I've already expressed my skepticism as to its likely quality or success. I'm only hoping it is good since it would give us something new to play on our weekly online games and 007 is more likely to get my sister's attention than The Conduit 2, (though I'm more looking forward to that.)

The Gameboy ones were ports of the 3 SNES ones. Hardly fair to complain that ports are the same as what they were ported from, is it?

Not exactly ports, no. In some ways they were better. Bottom line, though, is DKC is not a top-tier Nintendo franchise, and I don't really have time for second and third-stringers, anymore, especially when I've played it all before. Heck, I even got to play some in SSBB.

Donkey Kong is still a very strong Nintendo franchise. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat was a fucking awesome game that used the bongos (or wii mote if you bought the new control release which sucks bad). It sold over 6 million copies. Now if you're a peripheral whore, then you'd definitly want to pick that game up. Good luck finding it complete.

Also, DKCR I think will be an awesome addition to the DKC series. DKCR is either gonna sink or sail the ocean for a holiday/Birthday.

Well I don't really wanna argue but the claim that it isn't top tier is your opinion, and it is widely considered one of the best series Nintendo has made/featured. "The original SNES version sold over 8 million copies worldwide, making it the best-selling non-bundled SNES game of all time."
